Chamba, 23 Sep. Pangi Valley in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, known for its natural beauty and historical significance, has long been witnessing demands from the local people for a separate assembly constituency. To address this long-standing demand, the Pangwal Ekta Manch has once again launched a campaign. The formal commencement of this campaign took place on Sunday in Hudaan Bhatauri. Under this movement, the residents of Pangi Valley aim to strengthen their voice during the 2026 delimitation process and raise the demand for a separate assembly constituency before the government. Led by the president of the Manch, Trilok Thakur, members went door-to-door, seeking support for the campaign and raising awareness about its significance.
Campaign Across 19 Panchayats
The Pangwal Ekta Manch’s campaign is not limited to Hudaan Bhatauri alone. According to Trilok Thakur, members of the Manch will visit 19 panchayats in the valley as part of this movement. Their goal is to ensure that every individual understands how a separate assembly constituency can help resolve their day-to-day issues. Currently, the people of Pangi Valley face a major crisis due to the absence of a local legislator. As a result, they are forced to travel 400 kilometers to Bharmour for the resolution of their problems. Trilok Thakur pointed out that the legislator from the Bharmour area has never visited the rural parts of Pangi Valley.
Need for a Separate Assembly Constituency
The demand for a separate assembly constituency is crucial because the geographical and cultural conditions of Pangi Valley are quite different from other areas. Having a local legislator would ensure that the problems of the region are addressed promptly, and development projects would receive greater priority. Trilok Thakur emphasized that if Pangi Valley has its own legislator, they would stay in the valley throughout the year, listening to and resolving the issues of the people.
Public Support for the Campaign
The campaign has garnered widespread support from the people of Pangi Valley. The local residents believe that if Pangi gets its own assembly constituency, their problems will be addressed more effectively. They feel that only a local legislator can truly understand their issues and find appropriate solutions.
Geographical Challenges of Pangi Valley
The geographical conditions of Pangi Valley are extremely challenging. Surrounded by high mountains, it is difficult to access the area. During winter, heavy snowfall cuts the valley off from the rest of the state for several months. The poor condition of the roads also adds to the difficulties faced by the people. In such a situation, the demand for a separate assembly constituency has become a necessity for the residents of the valley.
The demand for a separate assembly constituency for Pangi Valley is a significant step toward improving the lives of the local people. The new campaign by Pangwal Ekta Manch has instilled fresh hope among the residents. If this demand is fulfilled, it will not only accelerate the development works but also ensure that the problems of the people are resolved at a local level.
